Organic Skin Care: A Guide

Skin care products made of organic ingredients first and foremost, means products that use raw materials that grow from the earth or from organic sources. These could come from seeds of plants or fruits. It could also be taken from the soil, various types of grasses, and oils.  It's important to distinquish between using the term 'Organic' to mean coming from organic sources, such as soil from the earth and 'Certified Organic' which means the entire product's ingredients or in many cases, only certain ingredients in the product are certified by a particular regulatory agency such as the USDA.  When a company uses USDA Certified Organic ingredients, it means that those ingredients are 95% free from chemical fertilizers, artificial hormones, antibiotics, GMOs, or synthetic pesticides as well as sustainably farmed.  If a skincare company has the financial means certify all their products, in most cases, they will also use the USDA Seal on the packaging.  For many small companies, it is often financially difficult to certify each product and they will instead source and use certified organic ingredients from outside suppliers wherever they can but cannot technically use the USDA seal on their products unless they themselves become a certified organic company.  This can sometimes be confusing for consumers when they're shopping for skincare because many skincare companies are guilty of 'Greenwashing'.  This is when a company claims to be natural and organic and uses those buzz words in their branding and packaging to lure customers in who want 'USDA organic' products when in actuality, they use more synthetic and chemically derived ingredients than anything else.  Many don't even use a one single USDA certified ingredient. They feel it is ok to use the terms natural an organic if they  have one natural ingredient in the product like coconut oil. This is just not ok.

Going forward, when picking out the right natural or organic skin care product for you, you would need to take into consideration your skin type. It could be oily, dry, combination, or you may have other problems like acne, wrinkles, or other signs of aging. Organic products work to address the issue from the source of the problem. Natural products may take longer to see results but in the end, it is worth it because you are addressing the problem in a holistic manner and not just treating the symptoms. Organic & 100% natural skin care keeps your skin moisturized naturally and in many cases,  contains  a lot of anti oxidants that benefit the skin. They also have ingredients that help fight bacteria and viruses that may cause skin irritations, diseases, and other issues. Because of their natural properties, these ingredients are mild and will also be a perfect fit for those with sensitive skin.  In general, organic skin care is a more natural substance that you can apply to your skin and it makes your skin feel fresh, revived, and nourished from the inside out instead of just skin deep. It is an all around more wholesome approach to taking care of your skin. When compared with commercial products that are packed with synthetic fillers, organic skincare products clearly offer significant benefits.
